Swiss Mountain Breaks
Latzoumaz is a friendly summer and winter resort high up in the Swiss Alpine Canton of Valais. It is an important part of the "Four Valleys" ski region, which consists of numerous ski areas including Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Latzoumaz, Thyon and the world famous ski centre of Verbier. Latzoumaz enjoys direct access to over 400 km of some of the finest pistes and off piste runs. Named after the word "tzoumer", which means taking a break, Latzoumaz nestles against the same mountain as Verbier and is at the same altitude (1500m). However, unlike Verbier, it is situated on North-facing slopes and hence enjoys a an extended ski-season, lasting from early December all the way through to mid-April. Due to its high speed Gondola and an absence of excessive lift lines means that those that stay and ski from Latzoumaz can often be in the heart of the Verbier ski area before those staying in Verbier itself!
Quieter than Verbier, Latzoumaz is popular with families and in addition to its main high speed gondola and numerous mountain chair lifts, it has a small nursery area and a lift for children and beginners, a natural ice rink, a heated swimming pool and the longest sledge run in Western Switzerland (at 10 kilometres). The resort is popular with British, German and Dutch visitors as well as Swiss Nationals who visit year after year for the world class skiing in winter and for the beauty and the tranquility of the Alps in summer.
